Conscience: Bear Man

Was given my next assignment and was asked to design a murderer- But not just any murderer, oh no.
This murderer needed to be designed with a bear in mind. My leads wanted for him to be a man beneath the fresh skin of a grizzly bear. So I got to work.

Okay, so the first design wasn't really all that "Hey! I'm a murderer! Fear me!", so my leads gave me some pointers and I was off again to redesign the head shot.

Now THAT'S more like it.
From the first to the second one I pushed more of the bear, taking in reference shots of bear skin and bones because I wanted to test a small version of a broken jaw. And teeth! I mean really, what kind of bear doesn't have teeth?
And with a bit more input from my leads I was off to work the body.

So we have the body!
And a new weapon to boot! Thinking it over I wasn't really feeling that the bear trap fit to the character. This is a murderer- this guys not going to be dragging around a bear trap wherever he goes. That's when i realized I had his weapon all along- I had designed him from the beginning with arrows in the back of the bear skin!
And my leads approved of the change.

Next it was time to get down to my characters back and side shots.

Looking pretty snazzy my dear bearman.

COLORING!
Finally we come to the final work!
Which has been turned in and given the thumbs up- so now it is off to one of our modelers.

Animatic: Floor is Lava

I was asked to prepare an animatic for several of my classmates who are working on a short animation-
This cute little short story about a child in the supermarket with his mother took a total of 5 days for me to complete.
I really love working storyboards but sadly I am unable to do them as often as I would like. Which is why I loved having the chance to do this.

Completed on 3/14/2013

On a side note! In one of my classes our final is an animatic! I'm super excited to be doing another storyboard so soon- and this time It's my own little story!
I should have that up within in the next week.
Whoo!

Oldies!

While preparing a resume and files i came across some oldies from
my first semester after changing majors AND schools-

Eyes became a big practice for me and the two images below were some first attempts to
re-introduce myself to my Wacom tablet after 5 years not touching the thing.

The base is the exact same for both images.
The only change between them really is their mouths.
But that one thing can change a lot about a creature!

The base of the yellow/ orange bird below was actually done with my mouse
while the top layers were finished with my Wacom.

Conscience: Eva

Sometimes working with people can be a challenge.
Some people are really good about what they want from your work- what they want it to look like and who they want it to look like.

The game group I am doing some work for at the moment asked me to design a character names Eva- giving me the description of her being a middle-aged overweight bus driver for a camp that looks a bit like John Goodman.
And so I got to work!

Above you can see the first design I made of this character- simple enough- pretty flat coloring and a skin tone that could make anyone ill. (hahaha)

The people in charge were not happy with the resulting character design so they gave me more for a description to work off of. But first, before I could work on body design again, they wanted for me to design them several faces that they could choose from.

Head set 1.
Head set 2.

Once I sent these two pages of heads into them they instantly went for Head set 2, first row, second head- or in short, the one with the headband.
Once there was a head chosen I was off to rework the body!
But this time, instead of the look of a bus driver as I had assumed, they wanted me to work her into a look of a middle aged biker chick who took up bus driving in the summer months to rake in a few bucks.

Whoo hoo! So they liked the design of her! But there was one last thing they wanted to add into the character- they wanted to make her a few moths pregnant.
Just a few- So finally, after a few more sketches and check in's I had the final resulting character.

This is Evangeline.

A. : Alas Mortis

Alas Mortis.

I was asked to design a villain with the body of a man and the face design of a vampire bat- after a little doodling about I sent off these 4 rough designs.

Row 1, head 2 was selected as their favorite.

After the head was chosen I worked to their specifications on a body design.
muscular yet not bulky- red eyes, blue brown skin and mean.

I had a lot of fun designing some of his skin! And I'm happy to say they approved of his body design.

Well this IS a vampire bat after all- figured I should throw up a few fur designs on him.
first it was just a little face hair and them it moved down his back- from there I showed a mix of ideas for them to look through.

Last but certainly not least, his clothing!

Gwim: Sister 7

I had the chance to take some time out of my schedule and do some concept art for a small game group that's trying to start itself off.

Above is Sister 7, one of the boss characters. Each sister is a ruler of a region of land- made to look elegant and fitted to their region- yet they all wear masks to hide their poisoned skin.

Feith

Everyone had something to help then relax and get through the last 2 weeks of school and deal with finals.
Some go out a party. Some drink and nap, I draw.

Well, design to be more specific.
Fall 2012, during the last 2 weeks of school I took up designing these little creatures to help me relax.
I call them the Feith's.

 Funny thing about these two.
They are actually the same character.
The one on the left was the very first one I designed for this series. I originally was thinking to bring in a subtle under-design of human into the image, but moving into the second design (The Wasp Orchid) I realized I wanted to drop the human idea and stick with just the plants and insects.
7 designs later I chose to redesign my first creation and focus him more on the plant and creature that were chosen for him.
A Corn Poppy and Praying Mantis!

At the moment there are 13 of these characters.
Down the line I hope to work with them more
